Is Windows 7 logon running slow? It might be your Background

Microsoft focused heavily on improving performance in Windows 7 and they delivered with boot times of less than 30 seconds being quite normal. However some tweakers out their might want to reduce this even more by stopping un-necessary services;using SSD hard drive (like the Intel X25-M) and/or by setting the backup ground image to a solid color as to not waste disk I/O loading the image file.

Unfortunately Microsoft let a bug through net that causes the logon process to be delayed by 30 seconds if you set your background image to a solid color.

Solid colou

Thankfully if you REALLY want your sold color background you can request the hotfix to resolve this performance issue from Microsoft at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/977346

Otherwise just use one of the really great Windows 7 Background images that come with it for FREE.

Windows 7 demand drives record revenue and profit

Microsoft had a huge boost with the launch of Windows 7 as they have just announced they have sold over 60 million  copies. This has made it the fastest selling operating system in history and has led to Microsoft making a 60% jump in profit to $6.66 billion for that last quarter of 2009.

Certainly this popularity was helped by the extremely positive review that product received as well as the versatility of the Operating System to be loaded on the most modest of Netbook computer to 256 (theoretical) core CPU’s.

This is of course no surprise to anyone who has been using Windows 7 since the Beta 1 was release back in January 2009 as back then it was very clear from that Win7 was going to be a great OS.

Now with the immanent release of Microsoft Office 2010 in May (or sooner) which has just been announced to have the same system requirements of Office 2007 it certainly looks like Microsoft will have another hit on hands soon.
